Virechana (Purgation)

Virechana is medicated purgation therapy which removes Pitta toxins from the body that are accumulated in the liver and gallbladder; it completely cleanses the gastro-intestinal tract & whole body. It is a safe procedure without side effects.

Pre Procedure

Snehana and Svedana are the pre-procedure. Medicated ghee or oil is given orally, in such a quantity, which will require at least 12 hours to get digested. Snehana is given daily for three to seven days, as indicated .Stream bath is also given simultaneously once or twice a day. Curds and preparations of black gram are given on previous day.

Main Procedure

The procedure is done in the early morning period from 7 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. The patient is asked to drink decoction of herbs. Purgation generally starts within 2 hrs after drinking decoction.

Post Procedure

The person is advised to take rest. The diet is given in a particular order starting from rice water (rice + 14 times water to be cooked and filtered) to normal food. It may take 3 to 7 days depending on the elimination doshas to come back to normal diet.
